Armchair 400 was created by Alvar Aalto in 1936 for an exhibition at the Milan Triennale, where it was promptly awarded a prize. The chair owes its nickname “Tank” to its robust upholstery and the distinctive wide and sturdy armrests made from form-bent birch lamella. The springy cantilevered frame offers a flexible, comfortable seat.Armchair 400 is available with different armrest finishes and upholstered in Artek’s iconic Zebra fabric, available in black and white or brown and white.
